Feel Like a Superhero

When I was younger, grownups would often ask me what I wanted  to be when I grew up. Most of the time I would answer a teacher, but in my heart I always wanted to be a superhero. Now older I think our world could be so much more interesting with some of us having super powers.

If you were a superhero what powers would you have? For me, being able to run fast would just be the best thing. I might even stop driving my car, since I could run faster.  But how about being invisible, or shoot flames, or ice, or have super human strength.
After Harry Potter movies hit the screens, it really hit me hard that not having powers is really dumb. Replacing the carpet in your home would be a snap, or even painting the exterior. No more pizza parties for your friends to come paint your house for you. A wave of your wand and it was done. Just think of how much you could get done in one day with super powers.

After I reached adulthood, (age is different for everyone) I realized I was the one in charge of my life. What I was going to accomplish during my stay here. What career or hobbies was I going to partake in. What kind of people would I associate with, and so on.  There also came a time when it was up to me to make significant changes in my life that would help get on the right track.

Some of you may never get on the right track, you may never even find your track. There are some who will find it, but refuse to get on it. And there is me, who finds it, gets on, then changes it every chance I get. I cut new directions. I like a challenge. And who shouldn't like a challenge? Once you come to a crossroads in your life, and you find a way over it, under it, or around it, you become a changed person, a better person because of it. You get one step closer to the person you want to be, the person you know you are inside.

I have read many books over the past ten years. Some good, some bad, some so hard to read that I think it was only for the author. I have learned over the years that we do have superpowers. We have the power of choice. Every second of every day, we get to choose what we do with the time that has been given to us. It's not our abilities that tell us who we are, it's our choices.

There are consequences for those choices however good or bad. Do they get you closer to your goal or farther away?  Ultimately we have the power to define our lives and do with what we want with what has been given to us. If you grew up poor it's your choice to stay that way, or choose to do something about it. If you are in a bad relationship, it's up to you to make the changes to build a better one. If you want to get healthier, it's your decision to get up and do something to make that change. No one else can or will make that decision for you.

What super power could be better than that? Well maybe spitting fire would be cool. So don't let your powers get stagnant, get out there and use them. Find your track, get on it, and challenge yourself until you succeed. Good luck and always continue on your journey. It's not over until you stop walking.
